Our Services

As a consultant specifically for the veterinary profession, I am in a position to know the rules and develop practical ways to apply them at your hospital. Therefore, you can have a hospital safety program that complies with OSHA's Standards without a major personal time investment. But perhaps the best part of my program is how simple it is to keep up - most practices can stay in compliance with less than two hours a month!

Since every practice is different and some need more assistance than others, there are several levels of service available.

The Complete Safety Implementation Program

As the name implies the complete program is just that-complete!  I'll observe the practice in action then document the required programs for compliance.  Here's what you get for your money:
  • I'll start with a comprehensive safety assessment of the practice procedures and facilities. I'll provide a written report of the conditions as well as recommendations for an appropriate solution to any situations that violate safety principles or OSHA Standards . This report will meet OSHA's requirement for a written hazard assessment of working condition.

  • You'll receive a Hospital Safety Manual that's customized specifically for your practice. The safety manual will contain all the written plans and training materials needed to complete a comprehensive safety program.

  • I'll furnish all documents, plans, posters, pamphlets, labels, etc. necessary for compliance - I'll even apply the signs and posters where necessary. If additional safety equipment (such as gloves or eyewash devices) is required a source will be provided for procurement through your regular process.

  • One of the most time consuming parts of OSHA compliance is completing the inventory of hazardous materials that is required by the Hazard Communication Standard. But don't worry, I'll do this too! Only current, in-use materials will be included in the program. Dated or obsolete materials will be identified or collected for your disposal instructions.

  • Proper identification of secondary chemical containers is easy because I'll supply and attach specially designed labels that are easy to understand.

  • An assessment of the Safety Data Sheet library will made and the library will be organized in an easy-to-use manner. If you don't have one of the SDSs you need, don't worry - I'll start the process of locating them for you.

  • Since the cornerstone of any safety program is staff awareness, I'll present a two hour staff safety training session. The training will cover common hospital safety problems, reinforce the prevention methods that employees can follow to protect themselves and inform each staff member of his or her responsibilities and rights under the Occupational Safety & Health Act. Twenty-five staff training workbooks along with a set of the new AAHA Be-Safe! Training DVDs for use in training future employees!

  • To keep you current, this service includes a one year subscription to The Veterinary Safety & Health Digest. The Digest is a bimonthly newsletter for the veterinary profession containing topics related to the safety and health of the veterinary hospital staff with a particular emphasis on complying with OSHA requirements.

  • Finally, to handle situations that may arise in the future, I've included twelve months of unlimited telephone support to your hospital for discussing any safety related issue.

The fee for this service in most practices is $3,350 plus the direct travel and lodging expenses for the consultant. It usually requires two days on-site to implement.*

Safety Review & Staff Training Program

For the practice administrator with a workable safety program already in place, this visit will focus on evaluating the practice facilities and procedures so the manager can refine the program. And since we’ll already be on-site, we throw in some expert training in safety issues for the staff! This service includes:
  • A comprehensive safety assessment of the practice procedures and facilities.
  •  A written report of the conditions as well as recommendations for an appropriate solution to any situations that violate safety principles or OSHA Standards.
  •  Evaluation of the existing Hospital Safety Manual or written safety policies. We’ll suggest revisions and improvements to make the manual compliant with OSHA and industry standard practices.
  •  A staff training session that covers common hospital safety issues and reinforces the prevention methods that employees should follow to protect themselves and stay in compliance with governmental rules
  •  Ten staff training workbooks for use in training future employees.
  •  A one year subscription to The Veterinary Safety & Health Digest.
  •  Six months of unlimited telephone support to your hospital for discussing any safety related issue.

The fee for this service in most practices is $2,250 plus the direct travel and lodging expenses for the consultant. It requires one day on-site to implement.*

Regulatory Training for the Manager

For the practices with a structured management team in place, this “Train the Trainer” program is designed to give the supervisors and managers the knowledge they need to keep a regulatory compliance program running. This classroom style training is delivered in your practice and customized to the needs of your practice team. Typical program contents include guidance on issues such as:

  •  Human Resources Issues (Fair Labor Standards Act, ADA, HIPAA, Wage & hour rules, INS, etc)
  • Pharmacy Issues (Dispensing rules, Dealing with internet pharmacies, Compounding drugs, Over-the-counter dispensing, etc)
  •  DEA Rules (Registration of practitioners, Security and storage, Logs and inventories, Resolving discrepancies, disposing of outdated or no-longer-used controlled drugs.)
  •  OSHA Rules (Administrative, Procedural, Protective equipment and Training requirements)

We’ll also include:

  •  A one year subscription to The Veterinary Safety & Health Digest.
  •  Six months of unlimited telephone support to your hospital for discussing any regulatory issue.

The fee for this service in most practices is $2,250 plus the direct travel and lodging expenses for the consultant. It requires one day on-site to implement.*

* Note: Quoted fees for consultation programs are based on a small to medium sized practice (25 or fewer employees) with a single practice facility. If your practice is larger, has multiple facilities or your needs are more complex than the plans outlined here, just give us a call and we can prepare a proposal suited to just your practice!
